As I was posting these I realize I need to do some progression through the apertures. I really don't want to be limited to using f10 to get usable photos though.
Just came back from very first outing with DFA 150-450. Definitely IQ is not up to my Sigma 500/4.5 output. However, it might be convenient enough travel solution for me. I was shooting mostly at f7.1 and +4 focus adjustment (very quick and dirty estimation though). It looks like at shorter distances my copy performs better and gets some softness closer to infinity. Might be some decentering or crooked a little glass.

This is one out of not too many todays keepers . Processed same way as my usual Sigma shots. I'm going to do more careful FF/BF shoot out first before making any assumptions.

A few from today.
The Kingfishers are really keeping their distance this year and it doesn't help when you realize your @ 700mm not 800mm after the shot

Slight crop, Something of a struggle with the DA* 300 + TC this evening. Light was fading badly, f5.6 ISO 1600 and 1/80 (!). Only got one or two OK ones, though that is probably more than I should expect given the conditions!

I do think the focus calibration needs doing maybe. Does anyone know if the camera has two micro-AF-adjust settings for lenses with and without the TC - or not?

You must be pleased with the lens so far from the results you've posted. Is auto-focus speed crisp?

These are great examples but it seems you where very close to your subjects.
A real test is near infinity and a huge crop.
I tread very lightly in this group and hope you take no offence.

I have been having the same issue. I have been watching this Kingfisher for weeks and have not been able to get one shot. Yesterday he keep teasing me flying close to me but never landing. Finally he did land but still really far away.
100% crop on the Bigma at 500mm.

Just got my K-3 back from repair and wanted to see how my "new" Pentax fa8 300mm f/4.5 worked with it. While it was cloudy and threatening to rain I went for some hummers by bumping the ISO. Missed focus a bit. But I'm happy enough.

I was packing up my gear to head back to my truck when this Black-capped Chickadee flew down by me. He stayed there just long enough to grab a few shots.

Edit: Correction of bird ID from Red-BreastedNuthatch to Black-capped Chickadee

Bar-Headed Geese. Seems they fly over Mt. Everest (highest peak) while migrating south. Pentax K5 / DA*300 / 1.7x TC
