Nice. Last year this time we had a white eyed vireo, far outside it's range.
Thanks. I was fortunate to be able to go to where the birds are. All of these shots (and some of the earlier swamp pics) were taken at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Florida. Always worth a visit if you're ever in that area.

Yellow-rumped Warbler. There's been a huge amount of these showing up in my backyard the last few days. Always between 1pm and 3pm. I read that they're here for the winter. I took a chair and placed it between 2 big oak trees and waited for them to show up once I knew their schedule.

The ones I got this summer were pretty much the same, they don't seem to mind people sitting in chairs. Sometimes I was even able to mover the chair 10 feet for a better angle.

Yep. That I noticed. They didn't seem to mind that I was there and got closer to me than most birds would allow.

I could get close enough to Otis to put him in my jacket pocket....but I'd have to buy a new jacket after I got out of the ER room.

This morning...Otis surveying his vast kingdom in the Woods of Otis.

This image just makes the criteria for this thread, Taken with a 55-300 @ 300, I think with the K5.

Continuing my suggestion that one not be afraid of high ISO--- at least with a K-3--- these two Oregon Junco photos were taken the the FA 300/f4.5 and the DA 1.4x extender with a monopod at f.6.7 and 1/400 at 12800 ISO.
It was a dreary day and snowing lightly. My point is simply to not be afraid to dial up the ISO when conditions get lighting conditions get difficult. My wife tried the same shot a few days ago
w/o the extender at low ISO and wound up with 1/10 sec exposure and the lens wide open.... the birds heads were bobbing around eating seeds and there wasn't a keeper in the sequence.

I agree...and sometimes get very decent shots like yours at high ISO values. I find that dialing in higher ISO beats pushing in processing.....here is one I shot at 3200 and would have been better if shot at a higher ISO and pushed less in processing....

Same here but 1600 will push better in processing...
