I just procured a virtually perfect M400 from a Japanese ebay site. The lens looks like new old stock, and came with Japanese warranty cards and everything! I'm pretty excited about it.

Living downtown, there's lots to see and shoot from my apartment building. This is a little off-the-beaten-path compared to you guys's most excellent wildlife shots. These guys have been working diligently to clean the windows on the Bank of America Building in downtown KC, which (I think) is the tallest building in Missouri. Better them than me!

Happy New Year everyone!
Nice shot. You'd have to pay me in diamond covered gold bricks to do that job.

The old M 400/5.6 can do wonders with careful handling. I should know, I've had mine since the early 1980's. My last escapades with it were done with and without the AFA 1.7x rear converter that gives 680 mm but sure runs the f/stop numbers up. You have done well with that shot - we hope to see more of your shots, even if they aren't birds and/or squirrels.

Great captures.
Must get myself a K-3
Thanks Gary. A K3 would be a fine companion for your lenses.

Some marvellous detail there.
Thanks Norm.

Too many great shots on page 1274 to count. Not a loser in the bunch. Now I just have to wait for the weather to get to the point that I can see what I can find here. -12°C is not my favourite temperature.

And on this page the bad hair day bird at the top is great!
Thanks Albert. The "bad hair day bird" is an Australian Magpie Lark, colloquially known as a "Peewee", as that is the sound it makes when vocalizing.

Also, thanks everyone for the likes - they are always appreciated.

We have a Peewee in North America too. But it is a type of Flycatcher.

Wonderful shots here on this page....like all pages here!

What you guys have been waiting for! The first squirrel of 2016! Otis said some of you may have waited up all night for it? Hopefully, many more will come around in 2016, after all, I have thousands here all willing to pose for only peanuts!

Henry Squirrel...got the first peanut of 2016! You can only see a little of the peanut...he had to give 75% to Otis....it is Otis' new tax plan for support of those little blind orphan squirrels.

Regards & Happy New Year to all the fine shooters in this thread!

Nice! Those Junkos are not easy to shoot...you did good!

Otis said a few squirrel haters waited up all night to see the first doves of 2016...though he can't understand why?

She is a cutie!

No ice yet, but the numbers of winter duck are building. Long-tailed Duck and Greater Scaup on Lake Ontario today.

Left my TC behind (the weather was very dull anyway) so these are all K-3, DA*300mm and cropped

Here is my take for today. It's cold and dark and snowy here, but it didn't keep the camp robbers (gray Jays) out of the popcorn.

How much popcorn is my share????

Actually I was out comparing my fa300 f/2.8 with my fa 300 f/4.5 under bad lighting conditions.
Conclusion: there is no comparision. As a real world test, these two are hand held IS this

full mouth of popcorn: ISO 3200, Aperature f/4.5 / shutter 1/200 /handheld
Lens: FA300 f2.8 with DA 1.4x for effective focal length of 420mm

1 piece of popcorn: ISO 6400 shutter 1/500 / lens FA 300 f/2.8 at 2.8 /handheld

no popcorn FA300 f/4.5 at 4.5 w/ shutter 1/500 ISO at 12800 /handheld.

Now there is no method to my madness of raising the ISO from 3200 to 6400 when I removed the converter.... but the XDIF says I did.

I took about 50 photos this morning with the two lenses and frankly there are non that meet my standards of clarity and quality taken
with the FA 300 4.5. It's a wonderful little lens and does wonderful work --WHEN IT HAS ENOUGH LIGHT. The big heavy monster
delivers its value on marginal light days, and profoundly if you need a converter.

Sever PFers liked the dragonfly semi-macro I posted earlier, so here's a moth, K5 + 55~300 and Canon 250D filter, and this, unlike the dragonfly, is a significant crop from the original. IQ is marginally acceptable or unacceptable. It would look better uncropped.

Trying out some BIF shots with my K-S1 and Sigma 150-500mm. Was using TAV mode (ISO 1100-1600 with f6.7-8).
