It is a lot of lens, but I think I would rather that than my 680mm rig: M 400/5.6 + AFA 1.7x. That means focusing at (1.7*5.6)=f/9.5 with a rig that even on my Manfrotto 055 and 0168 ball head shakes violently any time someone sneezes - anywhere on the same beach! Imagine the pixie dust this shot would have had with the 560 and a slight crop. This is full frame on a K10D, by the way.
RE: tripod shake

I went through the tripod shake issues and bought bigger tripods etc. but the single thing that I found helped the most was when I bought offset plates and balanced the camera and lens. other wise the
tripod was like a heavily deflected spring and when the mirror went up the camera jumped like a mouse trap being tripped, but if the camera is hanging fully balanced on a gimble head that is much less of an issue.

Tawny eagle on the wing. With a deep crop this is stretching the Bigma a little past its limits.

A Lenscoat cover arrived for my FA*600mm f4 ED[IF] today the fit is fantastic

These shots were taken using my K-5/FA*600mm f4 ED[IF]/Sigma EF-610 DG Super on a Kirk window mount from a car passenger seat.
The birds were feeding under a Yew tree which was very dark.

This is excellent, Gary! I'm wondering how do you determine the right flash settings (as I guess the birds don't give you lot of time to apply "trial - error" method)?

It's all guess work. I usually take a test shot and see what that looks like

Glad to hear there's someone else using the same sophisticated method.

Thommo, how much is that cropped?
I can only dream of getting superb wrens to fill that much of the frame.

I always use guesswork because I cannot remember what the Pentax manual said on page 137, or was it page 731?
Cannot remember what I had posted before it was accidentally deleted, so I'll put up this willet.

While I'm waiting for Photobucket to come back on line... do any of you folks take the trouble to cover up the red flashing light on the front of the camera when you are using wireless remote? It is quite bright, and I'm sure some wildlife might find it disturbing, especially in low light.

I think this African sandpiper is a "Little Stint," in the same genus as NA sanderling

I use a C$2.47 wired remote (including shipping, yet) from China. I've been using it for two+ years now, and it works just fine, and there are no lights on the camera. The cord is just 1 meter (3+ ft) but it keeps my Klutzy hands off the tripod and camera and lens.

Thanks Canada Rockies - that would be handy for many shots but sometimes I want to trigger the shutter from a greater distance - for example when standing back from a feeder. I guess a wad of silly putty will do the trick whenever I need to do that! (I would be triggering the remote from behind the camera on my K-3 - on the old K-r I used to have to use a reflector since the only remote sensor was on the front of the camera).
