At Bombay Hook this morning. I think this is a Peregrine Falcon finishing digesting its last meal, looking around, and flying off for its next meal. K-3 Sigma 500 Pentax 1.4TC

Nice action shots. Yes, it looks like a Peregrine, immature, nominate subspecies.

Finally got enough light to start playing.
This is with the Super Tak 300 1:4 + Pentax 2x converter.
Now I need to learn how to clean it up.

EDIT: Added a snapshot of the trees they were in taken with a 50mm, for comparison.
These birds were in one of those uppermost clusters of branches.

Oops! Just realized I had the Focal length set at 1000! That should have been 600mm!

Always good to see some sharp manual focus shots - I take auto focus for granted.

I'm back after a long absence from this thread. So many amazing images to catch up with!

I'm heading off to England and Ireland in a few months, and I can't justify carrying the DA*300 for the relatively few times I am likely to want it. Solution? A brand new HD DA 55-300 WR, which will also substitute for my DA*50-135 thus saving a bucket-load of weight.

First test shot at long distance: this light tower is at least 200m away, and this is a pixel level crop at f/8.0

Here is the uncropped version, and one at 55mm for context.

Now to find me some critters

Good hunting! I'm impressed by what you can do with the 55-300!

We headed out this morning to find a reported male Harlequin Duck (rare around here and very photogenic) but were left with the usual selection, including this American Black Duck. (K-3, DA*300mm)

Urban Birds: Peregrin Falcon

Hi guys,
It is nice to see the thread alive and going. There are so many really great images here.

I didn't posted here for quite time: just did not want to share mediocre shots. However, yesterday I was lucky enough to watch this bloody Peregrine almost in the center of Los Angeles most populated area. I've shot quite a few very nice close images while the Peregrine was busy with what used to be a coot from a local pond.

I think it was a female: the bird was as large as regular Cooper's Hawk. She had two bands on both legs: one federal band with only four digits readable and another colored leg band with a clearly visible code. I I may try to report this to officials.

Anyway, Here you go: K-3 and Sigma 500/4.5 handheld as usual.

Happy shooting all,

SG
