From a few days back, 150~450 at about 300mm or a bit more. Males are handsome when the sun catches their feathers just right, even if they're not in full show-off mode. This one may be a touch blurred as the grass around his feet looks sharper than the feathers.

Thanks, but if you look at some of the other turkey picts taken at the same time that i've posted on other threads (wildlife thread, alphabet race) you can see in some the bird is significantly sharper.

Burrowing owl, 300 + 1.4X (as I recall), cropped as much as I thought was safe.

Looks like it may be back-focussing to me, the grass behind the bird's rump seems sharper than the bird?

Perhaps, although other shots of the bird taken seconds early/later were sharper. I did a focus micro-adjust on the lens, but that doesn't mean I got it right.

That happens, if the bird was in movement... sometimes the AF misses the subject. That doesn't necessarily means that the lens needs focus adjustment...

Agreed. I missed focus back in the MF days, so AF can be excused as it generally gets a higher % correct than I did. DOF at 300mm and f8 at the range of the turkey is how much - an inch or two? I wish I could get old-style screens intalled on modern DSLR's. I do have a Katz-Eyes screen in my K5, but it's split image with a microprism ring, whereas I much prefer all microprsim. Converted my LX to that and found it much better than the stock screen, but then I started with such a screen way back.
