RSPB Conwy - this is the view from one of the hides out over the small lagoon, the estuary is just beyond the reeds and with the Carneddau Mountains in the background. Taken with my smc-a 50mm, the idea was that fill flash would illuminate the foreground, only partially successful, need to work on my lighting skills.

Testing newly acquired example of the Nestar 400mm.

The Carneddau still with winter snow (melting fast) - K5.

Samsung NX20

Oy - wait yer turn!

The siskins are small and frisky, hopping around the feeder. This was the best effort.

All are great shots! For just getting that 400, you certainly need no practice!
Thanks, Carol! My teles for the last couple of years had been 200mm & 300mm Taks, so I'm accustomed to MF... just a bit different at 400mm.

Certainly not in the league of all your images, but I was pleased to catch this Bald Eagle, handheld with my Pentax 55-300 + a Tamron 1.4x TC.
Very cool! Did the AF work on this?

Thanks. It was frustrating being maybe only 100 ft away but unable to get a good shot because of the branches.

I'm impressed luftluss, great sharpness, and impressive lack of fringing for a lens of the era+tc combo.

I cooked out as much of the fringing as I could in Photoshop.

The A 1.4x-S is impressive. Better optics than the Tammy and Kenko converters I've tried. The Tak 300/4 is a sharp lens, and for the eagle shot it was f/8, seagulls and goose f/5.6.
