300mm plus Lens Club: discuss your long lenses

We seem to be having a bit of a Black-winged Stilt invasion, which is great when one has to escape the city due to the dreaded King's Day madness. DFA 150-450 on K-3, cropped. Uninspiring background, but at least it helps with tracking AF accuracy. Click for larger version.

Also from yesterday: black-tailed Godwit in the rain. Same lens. I keep wondering if it's suffering from a bit of back-focus. In this case the focus ends up being on the head (which works out), but also on some rain drops behind it, with the wings and tail being ever-so-annoyingly just out of focus (which doesn't work al that well), despite the aperture being f/8. Of course, user error is probably the more likely explanation.

Here I turned up the HP. These on an Oregon Junk taken with a Pentax-A 400 f/2.8 doubled up with the Pentax 2x-L Converter for effective 800mm ISO 6400
and 1/200 at f/5 ad modestly cropped.

Yes, Northern Wheatear [Oenanthe oenanthe]. The name originates from some old Anglo-Saxon name that translates into modern English as "white-arse" (source: Oxford Book of British Bird Names). The latter is obviously descriptive of this species' appearance, i.e., white upper-tail coverts and white proximal two-thirds of the tail.

Yup - it's just like the European Common Sandpiper.... except that it has spots.

It was a gloomy today but there was a hummingbird (or maybe a pair) flitting around the back yard & regularly alighting in the crepe myrtle so I took the FA*300/AF 1.7x/K-5IIs set-up out on the porch and shot--hand-held because I needed to move around a lot to get a clear shot through the branches.

The problem was they sat for quite a while with their backs to the camera but were very skittish when facing me so I didn't get the perfect ruby-throat photo I was after--this was the best I could do.

I'm hoping this won't be a one-time opportunity.
