That hummer is absolutely fantastic! And the second is no slouch either. Freezing hummingbird wings just the right amount is a lot of trial and error. You got rid of the error part.

As always, great shots you guys are posting here!

I needed a break from working in the garden yesterday and took a few shots of the usual visitors.
Both handheld. K3 with DA*4/300 and Kenko 1.5 TC.

Technical Advice

Hi took this today on a Powerful Owl (a first) on my new Sigma 150-500.

ISO 6400 F6.3 1/25 sec hand held lens OS off camera SR on. It was late in the afternoon.

You advice / opinions on how I have used the lens sought. Kind regards.

I have been using a 150-500 for about 3 years now and I have found the lens OS swithched on 1 and the camera SR off to work the best. I don't know if on the K1 the SR might work better ! On my K3,K5IIs & K5 I think lens OS is a little better at least at the long end which is where 90 percent of my photos are made.

Thanks Marquis, I'll try the OS with camera SR off. Cheers.

Any photo of an owl in the wild is cause for celebration in my book and you're one up on me right there. Those were obviously tough conditions but I think 1/25s would be way too slow on a tripod--much less hand-held. I don't adhere to it religiously but the 1/Focal Length rule regarding shutter speed is a good guide. The image could probably be improved somewhat in pp.

Thanks Dave, It has been a day of celebration to get my first owl today. We (the family) are "stoked" to have seen one.

More day light would have been good, we were lucky to find him, but it was late in the day. Cheers.

I'm going wild
I found old Vivitar 2x converter in my stash, put it on Spiratone 400mm. Tested on K5iis. Hopefully tonight will be clear sky for full moon. The setup is so light, I can get the decent sharpness with 2 sec delay.
My neighbors roof, f16, not bad for oldies.

Walked outside with the dog last night and the full moon was just coming up - a giant golden ball! Had to try to get a photo. Taken with my K-3, Sigma 150-500mm at 500mm with the Pentax AF 1.7 TC in manual mode - if I remember correctly it was 1/125 at f9.5, ISO 800 - on a tripod - manual focus.
