Lovely lens. I wouldn't mind one of those myself.

See what you've done now, you've started my LBA off again

House -Wren

An amazing sequence involving a pair of house wrens nesting on the side of our woodshed.

Notice the size of the sticks protruding from the birdhouse. the wrens placed all those.

The first photo is not so sharp as it was taken through the double pane glass door,
the second and 3rd photos did not have that problem.

equipment is a F*300 f/4.5 with DA 1.4x converter effective 420mm. ISO 6400 1/200 sec at f/14

My wife took these and hasn't quite figured out how to optimize the K3 for various light conditions, so I hard
set the ISO at 6400 for her and let the other two go on automatic.

for the second and 3rd photos the mate had gone inside the bird house and male was singing up a storm.

I recently received a Lensmaster RH-2 Black gimbal head from the UK in one week from order time, including shipping from the UK to a rural delivery in Canada. The head came with two plates, ARCA swiss compatible, 50mm and 140mm. I suspect that Rob will sell you a 140mm plate if you need it, but you can probably get one from B&H or other local suppliers.

With my M400, I found the short plate was sufficient. It slides enough that the change of balance with and without the AFA 1.7x can be accomplished by sliding the short plate from one stop to the other. The long plate on this old lens overlapped the focus ring, and that made it awkward to use. I also found, for me, that I mounted the lens with the vertical side to my right from camera position. I use the focus ring with my left hand and the entire lens is open to my hand using this orientation.

Still shooting in the Crop Mode and I still love it.

Full crop 1/160 handheld f7.1 @ 500mm ISO 3200 No noise reduction in or out of camera.

This crop was cropped another almost 50%.

Full crop ...gotta get in a squirrel or two! Same settings @ 330mm...he says posing is getting boring.

Regards!

I got out for a tour today and was able to get my first shots of a male and female Yellow Headed Blackbird, I also found a pair a Soras, they are a secretive little bird about the size of a robin and they never stop moving (made me crazy) I think I have also stumbled onto a pair of sandhill cranes they could possibly be staying around to nest so I'm going to keep track of them and lastly a Western Meadowlark having a bad hair day FA* 600 still not happy with the focus on this beast....

Gimbal head (benro)

as a follow up this is a Pentax-A 300 f2.8 with the Benro Gimbal head.

I have more or less permanently installed a suitable plate on all of my long lenses that have tripod mounts
as a part of their design (including the DA-60-250)

I've had this head and some plates for 3 years now and have been satisfied.

I had great fun photographing a pair of mute swans with their cygnets at Bay City (Michigan) State Recreation area.

After this swan's mate and cygnets left the water, this swan seemed to be tidying up part of the bank. I would be grateful for information about the behavior.

Best wishes to all.

Do you think it could be camera movement, at what shutter speed were the shots taken ?
Did you use a sturdy tripod/cable release?

Looking back through the shots my shutter was slower than I thought it was a lot of the time - it was one of those days when the clouds were constantly changing the amount of sun getting through. Most of these birds were hopping around and a cable release was not possible. The two relatively stationary birds were the female blackbird and the meadowlark which turned out the best. I'm quite certain that my trials and tribulations are not necessarily the fault of the equipment

Mute swans are good parents and homemakers. Both the male and female tidy-up and enlarge the nest to accommodate their growing cygnets. Typically, the male builds the initial (small) nest, and then both parties continue to enhance and enlarge it over the next couple of months.
