And you just might have one or two fewer rodents around as well. Nicely shot.

Thanks Albert and absolutely true as the indoor traps have been empty since early March.

Still working on my @#$%^&* Bird In Flight settings and technique, or lack thereof in the technique department..... However this is the first time I have seen this one as it has much more coloration on the wings.

Mississippi Kite.
The photo looks good to me.

The spots on the wings suggest it's a one-year old bird.

DA*300 + 1.4 HD TC

Eastern Eyed Click Beetle

Cicada

These two were less than a foot away from each other when I found them. The grey background in the Cicada photo is the oak tree in the first pic. All I had to do was tilt the camera ever so slightly and focus a little closer to get both. I found the Beetle first, and when I accidentally pressed the AF button, it tried to focus on the Cicada. Quite a surprise when watching through the viewfinder.

Reminds me of old Homer....a 6 foot black rat snake that lived under my house for years. He would come out every morning to get a drink from the dogs water bowl then go back under. We never had rats or mice. He was friendly if I was around, never aggressive and never seemed bothered by my presence. I fear that raccoons finally ate old Homer......I still find a few snake remnants the raccoons drag up every so often. They like to eat snakes...and most anything else!

I'd like the 150-450...but need other FF lenses worse currently. Maybe next year? Meanwhile, my Bigma 50-500 satisfies me pretty nicely. If you can get close enough it will give nice detail.......and at a distance it is still decent.

1/125 f7.1 @ 500mm ISO 4000

Most of the shots I see from the 150-450 are at very low ISO values.......most of my shots are at much higher ISO values......and shot wide open or close to it.
Although I believe the 150-450 is no doubt better....if I could shoot the Bigma stopped down at ISO 200-400 I do believe the difference would lessen considerably?

1/125 handheld f7.1 @ 500mm ISO 6400 ...K1 + Bigma 50-500 Crop Mode-No noise reduction in or out of camera.

Always great shots in this thread......makes you dream of the possibilities! For anyone still left wondering....the K1 is living in a wonderful Pentax dream come true!

Regards!

I am in my 60's now so weight is also an issue especially so when contemplating the A* 600 but even that would be OK with a long plate on a good gimble head.
Just FYI: The 600 f4 weighs 15.1lb (6830g) which is almost 3.5 times the weight of a Bigma 50~500. Would you like to deal with three Bigmas mounted on one tripod? The 600 f4 is in a different class of size & weight.

But the A* 600mm he is considering weighs only 7.2 lb. because it is f/5.6 and has no autofocus.

A male Pileated Woodpecker decided to start tearing up the maple stump in my front yard today. Don't know why they waited 5 years...
