among the little savages

One early evening I found myself among four woodchuck kits. They are sensibly timid creatures, but given some time to acclimate to my presence and carefully non-aggressive behavior on my part, their timidity diminished a skosh and I was able to get some pics.

A few shots with the Sigma 50-500 at 450mm. Due to the low light I shot wide open at f6.3 something I almost never do. Shots are uncropped and actual size.

Sometimes there's not much choice and you have to shoot the best you can. IMO the beautiful color and light easily counterbalance the fact that the birds are less than perfectly sharp.

Thank you, I have trying to concentrate more on lighting and composition. Those were taken right about sundown and the ISO was at 1000.

Another Bigma shot at 500mm, luckily there was plenty of light that day. F9 1/1000s ISO500.
Gothca!

This guy was looking a little on the ragged side. 500mm f8 1/800s ISO800

It is a good thing we have no shortage of Robins around here, 450mm f9 1/400s ISO1000
Being watched.

Something different.

K3 with DA*300 + 1.4 HD TC @ ISO 6400

18 photos stacked for focus.

Oh, and I went looking for coastal birds at a spot that I haven't been in 8yrs. All I found were boats.

I noticed that as well. I waited around to try to see what was going on, but they just kept driving back and forth without actually going anywhere.

What's your opinion of the A400/5.6's performance on the K-1?

I don't use my DA 55-300 much now that I have the DA* 300, but It's given me some very pleasing pics over the years.
