And from the look in the eye, probably edible.
If not edible right this instant, maybe 10 minutes from now.

My DA* 300mm is in for repair - one of the brass autofocus contacts has broken off - so I took my 55-300mm ED lens out on my walk in the park today. Lots of youngsters about:

Red-necked Grebe - this nest had eggs in it last time I was there, now there are several chicks

Baby Red-winged Blackbird (I know because Daddy tried to take my cap off while I was taking the shot)

Mallards

As usual, lots of Ring-billed Gulls around

I am suffering from a Serious case of "I want the K-1 and 150-450" But "Can't afford them Blues" so I broke out Old Bigma and put Her on the K-5ii which always makes me smile for some reason even though it is less than perfect in so many ways..... Including the guy's skill level that was holding them.
Osprey was about 175 yards, GBH was about 75 yards.

Sun Camera sent me that part and I did that repair myself. All it took as jewellers screwdriver and a few minutes.

Hopefully they'll have the part in stock and the turnaround won't be too long. That seems to be a fragile part of the lens design - very easy to lift the tab and break it.

Eagle catches and eats crab

This is a sequence of an eagle catching and eating a crab. All over a period of 8 minutes.
It was so far away I didn't even know what was going on until I examined the photos.

All photos were taken with a K-1, and a manual Focus Pentax-A 400mm with a Pentax 2x-L converter
for an effective 800 mm. the lighting was cloudy and produced F8 at 1/800 with ISO hardset to 6400
The first 4 photos were all taken within a matter of 5 seconds. I used a monopod for stability.

These 3 little guys were in the nest their Mom and Dad made outside my home-office window. Shot with a K-1 and 300mm f2.8 Tamron Adaptall with a #2 extension tube attached. External flash was place along side the lens. The subjects were less than 3 feet from the outside of the window!

Better, the birds moved to a different pond overnight that was closer to the rail and the sun came out without any clouds hardly so there was a lot more light to work with.

It's pretty good without the TC at f/8 and focused at infinity (5 shot pano of Denali)
