Forgot to check my settings before I went for a walk tonight. Left it in M mode and ISO 400. Only got a few salvageable shots.

Left it at F6.3 for a while too...

Oh I have done this before and I know the feeling.

Some 50-500 shots on the K3.

Better, the birds moved to a different pond overnight that was closer to the rail and the sun came out without any clouds hardly so there was a lot more light to work with.

It's pretty good without the TC at f/8 and focused at infinity (5 shot pano of Denali)

You seem to be getting along better with the 300/4...

Amazing those planes are still in service after so many years flying around the globe.

Look at the wrinkles in the skin on the fuselage.

Gary, your shots have an incredible amount of detail. Can I ask, do you do much in post processing? Thanks

No not much really. I usually enlarge the file by 50% and then I can see if it's sharp enough. Also I try to stop any movement when I'm taking a shot because I think that this is the main cause of soft images

The auto focus will just do you in on a photo like that--- it will either buzz back and forth, or just lock on the background
and provide sharp focus for everything except what you want...

Cross posted to Post Your Photos and K-3 sample images.

K-3 and DA*200 an 1.7x AF adapter. 340mm ƒ4.5
ISO 320, ƒ5.6, AV mode ( 1250/s to 1/1000, most at 1/500s)

We've been gone for a few weeks, so there's been no one here to feed the birds. So these are the die hard regulars who wouldn't give up on me. The've been through this before and had faith I'd be back.

The most regular of the regulars, a fixture around the feeders for the last 3 years.

And a few of her compatriots.
