Somehow when an owl looks straight at you, as a juvenile is doing in two of the images above, it's easy to believe they know just what you are, just what you're doing, and they don't like it one bit.

Thanks for the comments all, I do have to say while the adult appeared quite "wise and reserved" the youngsters were quite comical as they checked me out. They would do this rolling motion with their head and bodies that was unusual to watch.

Love the Pewee shot (they provide the sound of summer in my neck of the woods) and the owls!

I'm told by my birder friends that owl vision isn't actually that great. They claim the almost comical dancing head movements are the owl's attempt to give different visual perspectives as they fix on us.

That's interesting after you posted your comment I looked it up and found this Why Do Owls Bob Their Heads? | Audubon Apparently they can't move their eyes the way we can they have to move their whole head - like so many things I did not know that......[COLOR="Silver"]

Ken, If you give photo tours, I am in. Either you are very lucky with your captures (very doubtful) or you have an incredible technique and shoot A LOT (most likely). Exceptional image!
Thanks BigDave, I'm lucky for that shot but I did spend sometime on this bird.

I'm been actively posting K1 pics in the K1 thread that I've neglected K3 which is still a good birding cam.
Sharing some shots taken with K3 + Sigma 500 F4.5

Nice Swip - I watched a Killdeer nesting and I think I even posted a photo of the eggs - I checked her just about every day and then I missed the hatch glad to see you had better luck!

It was pure luck that I saw them yesterday while I was looking for frogs. I went back today and they were gone.
