Well done Tas.
I think I should take lessons on panning!

(x-post in the HD TC 1.4x thread)
Another test with the HD TC and the K-1 + FA*250-600

this time, I had similar images of the same bird in similar light conditions. Images had no PP, except cropping to fit them about the same size in the picture frame

The First image is without Teleconverter. Image cropped to 1843x1230 to get the bird fill the frame the same size as next image.

The next image is With HD Pentax-DA AF Rear Converter 1.4x AW. Image cropped to 2617x1747 to get the same bird size as previous image without converter.

I think the HD Pentax-DA AF Rear Converter 1.4x AW does a better job when the subject is close (a small as these little birds). They were about 15-20 feet distance...

when the subject is far, the HD TC increases any image issues like loss of details etc... (not sure how to translate this) whereas when the subject is closer, there are less of these issues, then the 1.4x magnification contribute more to the overall gain in details... especially useful when the subject is small and doesn't fill the frame.

So, in conclusion, when the subject is far, there is not real gain when using the HDTC... just try to get closer.

AND, the bird images are excellent whatever the background
Thanks for the compliment (and for the comments with some of the likes!)!

I guess you meant the "K-1"... but yes the bird was in a different angle for the K-1, it was more direct backward as the image with K-3II were a bit in angle...

not sure why the bokeh is that different though...
but the shots with the K-3 were a bit more under exposed (you can see the exif on Flickr)

The smc Pentax 67 300mm F4.0 on Pentax 645N

The smc Pentax 67 300mm F4.0 does not have the best reputation, and I don't quite know why. OK, it does not have a tripod mount, but otherwise I like it a lot - especially at the price point it can be found today. And I use it on film, not digital, and handheld:
Eurofighter Typhoon

Camera: Pentax 645N
Lens: smc Pentax 67 300mm F4.0 (and the Fotodiox P67 to P645 adapter)
Exposure: 1/180 @ F-- +0.7
Film: Fomapan 100 Classic dev. in D-76 1+1

Agusta-Westland EH101, HC3 Merlin

Camera: Pentax 645N
Lens: smc Pentax 67 300mm F4.0 (and the Fotodiox P67 to P645 adapter)
Exposure: 1/350 @ F-- +1.0
Film: Ilford Delta 3200 dev. in D-76 1+1

One more shot, but hairy subject this time... with the K-1 + FA*250-600

I think the K-1 is putting that already wonderful lens to a next level...

Great Horned Owls

I found the Great Horned Owl brood again yesterday in the late afternoon. They are hanging around a small slough and one of the juveniles was right down on the ground close to the water. I got some photos and I tried using video with the K3 and the FA600. I wanted to show the little head bob these guys do. I posted a link to the video via YouTube. Mom is in the first photo and as can be seen the youngsters are rapidly loosing their fluffy coats for the mature feathering.

Some shots from today's shooting in the morning. Juvenile Bald Eagle on the tree and later flew to nearby tree to join one of the parents.
Shot with K-50 and SMC A 400mm f/5.6 lens. I love this setup..decent focal range and no tripod needed.

I really like the first two shots of the juvenile eagle. The look as it stares down is perfect.

Nice work.
