K-3 plus stacked F 1.7x AF adapter and HD DA 1.4 TC
1/400s, 400 ISO, ƒ8.

It is possible to be too close. Taking one adapter off, would have given me more DoF, and I probably should have gone to 1000 ISO for shutter speed, but all in all, I'm not unhappy with the results.

Wandering around by the feeders

Sitting on the porch waiting for hummers. There are lots of flower bloomingg along the porch rails. May as well get some images while waiting.

If you futz around long enough and take enough images of flowers, sooner or later the hummers turn up....

Lovely shot of an impressive bird.
What a pity you couldn't pull out a bit of detail in the chest.

Cheers,
Terry

Thanks,
It was pretty dark image. Most of the bird was in the shadow. I tweaked it now in NIK, little better now.

Yes, that's much better, good job.

Finally a little a bit of time to test new K-1. More I use it more I like it. Dynamic Range, high ISO and image IQ is awesome.
Some samples. K-1 with SMC 500mm f/4.5. K-1 really brings this lens to a different level.

Another outing to Prime Hook trying to get skimmers feeding. It is difficult to predict tides in the marsh area, this was 3 hours after high tide at the inlet but the tide was still very low. The birds were way out. These were taken at 600mm the first with a minor crop. I just got them flying way out or overhead going from pool to pool to feed.

Wow, you have really gotten that old legend to perform. I have achieved good sharpness out of my Tak SMC 500/4.5 (same optics), but nothing like you have achieved. Also normally a fair bit of CA as well. And a real monster to handle.

Really liked the Golden Eagles shots. Would like to know your "secrets"..!!

Great shots Philip, and the perfect setup in kit. Very envious of that 560 sharpness at distance...!
