Nice shots. I agree with Canada_Rockies...the back lit deer herd (second from the top) is awesome.

That is a fine capture. I must add "small fish" to the list of things I'm grateful not to be.

Thank you! I've posted this one before, but sometimes even being a big fish doesn't pay. The crosshatched pattern in the pelican's throat is a very large carp. Its size didn't slow it down on the way to dinner.

Turned out very well. Even 4-stop image stabilization is challenged by my caffeine-activated hands.
I'll second that. And I don't even need caffeine!

Went out again this afternoon. Low tide again. Decided to get low again shooting at water level, tripod in the mud.
Yellowlegs and Dowitchers showed up. They were munching on the worms and this worms are huge. They were picking
one after another (I don't know if they puke from over eating) .

Here is sequence Greater Yellowlegs catching worm.

K-50, SMC 500mm f/4.5

I can feel you mister worm.

I got you.

Another try for skimmers. The tide was low in the marsh again so the skimmers were far off (large crops) but under the watchful eye of the lord of the swamp. I did get one flying close but it is difficult to keep this fast moving bird in the frame - clipped the lower wing. The challenge with skimmers in the early morning, besides the tide, is keeping the shutter fast enough and not getting too much noise. These were all shot at 600mm 1/1000

Especially like the fellow stretching his wings. Glad I'm not a yellowlegs, plucking worms out of mud for breakfast. Actually I've eaten fried earthworms, when I was an undergrad at Berkeley. The prof teaching invertebrate zoology offered a taste of many of creatures we were studying, just to demonstrate their viability as a source of protein. Well, earthworms may provide protein, but they tasted to me more like just plain dirt.

Sounds to me like your professor didn't add enough special sauce.

Excellent shots, everyone!
