another feather in your cap Ken. I am guessing that cap weighs a couple of tons now with so many feathers.

Some handheld A/400 images between today's clouds and sun. The exif data is from A/100 since I forgot to change it trying to chase these critters.

wrong lens

IT seems like ther are some days that you just have the wrong lens on the camera. Often a 300 mm is a good bet if you are birding, but then this happens.

this is a full frame shot of an eagle with a 300mm f/4.5 lens on a K-3

Some pics of Bald Eagle from June-2016. This thing just landed near the parking lot where I was parked. Camera gear all in the trunk ready to leave.
Pop the trunk open setup K-50 with SMC 500mm f/4.5 on tripod. I was lucky that it did not fly away. This Red-winged Black bird was harassing it.

It was a dark overcast. Not the best shooting conditions.

The second image captures the precise moment for the take-off. The redwing being annoying is cool.

This thread is for long-lens discussion as well as displaying images, So, I purchased at what I considered a bargain price an early version of the Nikon 600mm f5.6 EDIF, without case but in generally very good to excellent condition. I've been experimenting with it on my K1 using no-lens adapter. This precludes focusing to infinity, but the major use for such a long lens is wildlife, especially birds (BTW: the lens does focus past infinity, but not enough to compensate for the extension of the adapter). Here is an experimental image of a small bird and a deep crop. Considerable PP sharpening has been applied as I wanted to see how good the IQ could be made. Camera set at ISO 3200, which also impacts IQ, braced on the car door with a commercial "pillow" style support, SR engaged. The third image of a flag in the cemetery was taken at near the maximum focal distance possible with the no-lens adapter. I think for most small bird photography there will be no need to focus to a greater distance. The IQ is very good, although the color rendition is a bit odd.

Thanks,
Yes picture with the Red winged Blackbird is cool. I even have a picture of this same bird "sitting on the back of this eagle) and pecking him.

Nice clean shots. I never really taught about to use Nikon or Canon or different mounts on Pentax. I have to look in to it. I would like to get something like 600mm f/4 + adapter.

Travis didn't get close either ("700mm, 100% Crop")--which makes the stunning IQ truly remarkable!

I wouldn't be too disappointed with that, other than the framing it looks OK. Sensor needs cleaning though.
