So I started to process and sort my photos from my safari. All taken with 55-300 or 17-70. Here I'll post a few 300mm shots.

First one: the Lion King, Ngorongoro conservation area, Tanzania

Strange day today at the marshlands. Tons of birds, but they were all way more spooky than usual. Hunting season might have to do something with it.
Normally I can get decent range with K-3 and SMC A 400mm f/5.6, but today only American Robins let me get close .
Since I had my K-1 with M* 300mm f/4 with me I took a shot of Mount Baker in the distance.

K-1 and M* 300mm f/4

When you think about it, Lions are much more active than cats...

Good shooting - especially getting down to eye level

I went to the mail this morning and there was a K-1 there.

But my subjects stay the same.

K-1 and Tamron SP 300 and F1.7x AF adapter. (510mm ƒ4/5)
ISO 3200, ƒ7.1 AV mode.

This combo should become my regular blind shooting combo, in my back yard where I have the opportunity to make up missed images.

'

First impressions, I'm not sure it locks focus as fast as my K-3. I definitely missed shots because of the frame rate and buffer size. I'm going to have to study the manual more. The images when you get them are top notch. Oh , and I also missed the APS-c reach. I'm calculating about a stop better for noise... I Need ƒ8 instead of ƒ5.6 for normal shooting, but ISO 800 looks to be about the same as ISO 3200 so I end up one stop to the good. Dynamic range and colour are very good.

You get a K-1 and the first thing you think is, 500mm ain't what it used to be."

But as I understand too you'll be able to keep more quality when you combine 2 TC something that you do often . And that 300 f/2.8 is the perfect lens for it !

I know that ruppert quite satisfied also with his 50-500 maybe that's something to try at some point too?

750mm is the new 500mm, but you can always go to crop mode. Think of the latter as a built-in 1.4X TC.
