Thanks! Yeah: location! Hope I don't bore you with bear pics!
I do have a trip to Yellowstone planned for Spring 2018, hoping to get bears, moose and wolves. My last trip there years ago was good for all three. Location is important. January I have a trip to the Everglades, kayaking for alligator pictures. Some people live near Yellowstone and also the Everglades and can get there often. On the other hand I do live near several great Wildlife Refuges in Delaware and have great access to birds. Let's see birds vs bears vs wolves vs alligators. While I wouldn't pick birds - it beats not being near a wildlife refuges

Can you tell the difference between these and the ones taken on the K-1?
I can tell the Tamron is a bit smoother/nicer looking than the DA*200.

F*300 taken with my own special bird blind.

From my point of view, if I get 10% I'm happy. I'm oftenway above that in good light, motionless subjects.
When the sports editor of a paper I was accountant for started handing me film canisters to take to my children's sports events, he said that two rolls of film with four (4) newspaper sports quality shots was good going. At the soccer games (football ...) I shot one roll in the first half and the other in the second. For the first several weeks, I got critique. After a year or two, I was advanced to filling in on adult games.

My scrapbook has a full page of the sports section with two verticals I took at a school sports meet filling the page. That was a rush! The paper in question had a whole wall full of trophies for their sports coverage.

The point: learn from others. Look at their shots and learn from them. Why is one paper's coverage of a game more interesting than the other's?

Back to the quote: 4/72 is nowhere near 10%. That is a superb ratio of captures vs exposures.

Thanks. Interesting about the accepted ratio there, especially given you were talking film too. I guess it's the beauty of digit all, you can shoot so many without considering costs (as an amatuer). Just to refer back to my comment though. After this I was going through my last set of pics and honestlyou had troubless deciding what to keep and and what not to. Happens sometimes.

I wonder for cost... If you take thousand regularly, you may end up with 50-100K actuations a year. My understanding is that most non flagship camera would die in that first year or the one after. Say a K30/K50/K70 in Pentax land or even KS1/KS2.

Even with a flagship, if you take an enormous amount of photos, you may find yourself with a failure sooner than expected. With 100K a year you could not expect your K3 to live more than 3-4 years as this would mean a shutter count significantly bigger than the advertised one.

On my side, I am more in the 10K/year range rougly so while a K30/K50 that is say to fail around 30K actuation on average is an issue, but any flagship is more than I need.

I guess that the same for most non pro shooters: As long as you have a flagship, that should be more than enough.

How I wish I could have shot with DA*300 for more shots within the frame.

My K3 is 18 months old and I'm up to around 15,000, so I should be good

Several of those images are fine but especially the last one of the hawk. That one is spot-on.
