Not much shooting/much to shoot lately, but I still practice when I can. I think I've determined that I can reliably shoot my A400 + 1.4x-L at 1/250s with good technique, shooting a brief burst of 4 or 5 frames and at least 2 sharp.

@derekkite - wonderful shots. Yes, the first weasel is definitely a mink, as other have said. Minks have more slender, pointier heads than otters. The white on his jaw and chest is interesting - I wonder if he's an escapee or former pet.
I too confirm it is a mink...

Which model of Takumar 300mm?

It seems there are several models of the Takumar 300mm. In Pentax Forum lens reviews, Model 1 is reviewed poorly and Model 2 quite high. This lens comes up from time to time on eBay, but I have no idea how to determine which model is being offered, and the sellers seem also to have no idea. Wondering if anyone who has detailed experience with these lenses can tell me what to look for, particularly what questions to ask the sellers in order to ascertain which model is up for sale?

Outstanding capture. It also speaks volumes for IQ of the 150~450.
Thankyou!

Is this to collect, or to use? I wouldn't go for either model, as they are even heavier than the A 400/5.6. The Super Takumar and SMC are the way to go. I had the SuperTak 300/4 and it's very nice and sharp, although CA can be problematic. I sold mine to finance the A400, but I do miss it.

shot at f/5.6

A few more shots from my car. K-5/FA*600mmF4ED[IF]/Eckla window mount.
This Stoat was so close that I was unable to get him all in shot.

From my backyard blind.

K-3 and Tamron SP AF 300mm 2.8 LD [IF] and F 1.7x AF Adapter (510mm, ƒ4.5)
(there's an F 1.7x in the market place at a great price.)

640 ISO, ƒ5.6 AV (1/160s to 1/500s)

Using primes you have to guess what you are going to shoot. Right now I have a hundred or so Goldfinches out there.

When you set up for Goldfinches, even a little downy woodpecker fills the frame.

And of course there were the prerequisite squirrels....
King Squirrel is back. He comes to the closest to me tree stump, climbs up and looks in the window at me. "Dude, is there going to be peanuts today?" Unfortunately closer than minimum focusing distance.

And the second in command among squirrels at the far end of the feeder.

Hang some suet sacks out a few days back which brought in chickadees and nuthatches. This pair is apparently not on chirping terms. Taken with a very old Nikon 600mm f5.6 EDIF. DOF is painfully shallow with this lens.

@Ducatigaz - love that adorable stoat.
@normhead - my fave is the squirrel, such a cute little fella.
@jacamar - that Anhinga is a winner! An amazing shot, really enjoyed your entire series.
@wpresto - that needs to be on a Valentine's Day card, I think.

This morning there was a brief wink of weak sunlight, and I managed to get a few mallards.

Later on we had that weird cloudiness where half of the sky is brilliant white, and the other half is dark and threatening. Got mommy, daddy, and child swans.

Both shots A 400/5.6 + 1.4x-L

The first one in this series is by far the best. Exceptional catch of the action!

Got out today (finally!) and found a lifer!
Good Light was not there, but at least the snow adds a little plus!
