I know the yellow came out well but colour is something I rarely try to adjust in PP (I tried recently when the camera was accidentally set to "bleach bypass" and when there was some flare to deal with) - I usually just adjust exposure, highlights/shadow, clarity, contrast and sharpness in Camera Raw and Photoshop Elements, as required.

Baboon done with a Bigma. I think those are seeds hitch-hiking on his chest. Adult male baboons are nasty-dangerous.

As you know I have the FD 400mm f4.5. I noticed these auctions for a 600mm and a 800mm and put them in my watch list. Prices however went way past my pocket....

I am learning to use a new-to-me Tokina 500mm mirror lens (a Pentax Marketplace purchase) with my K-S2, a Manfrotto 393 gimbal head and either a Manfrotto monopod or a tripod.

This image of a snowy-beaked Northern cardinal was captured through the glass of a sliding door. Comments, suggestions and criticism are welcome — by PM if you prefer that to posting in this thread.

I greatly admire images posted here. Thanks very much and best wishes to all.

Yup, thanks. Will do and correct. Sloppy mind-somewhere-else* typing.

*Please to not kick if found. It's small and not function well, but it's all I have.

Well sorry - way over my head, or maybe I was a bit over-sensitive, thinking I was being accused of the high crime of over-saturation.

Yeah, that qualifies as a success indeed. I'm curious, how do you get the blue skies to stay so clean while preserving all that detail in the birds? I always struggle a bit to get the noise reduction right with my K3II (and K3 before that), although switching to DxO software helped a lot.

After a three month wait, I got my DFA 150-450 back from repair. Half the lens has been replaced with new parts. Mental note for the next time: always check if the zipper is closed when you carry your camera bag while walking on a concrete floor. Anyway, from last week (crops to about 25% of original frame, click for larger versions):

Great Bittern taking off:

Iceland Gull in flight (in mist and rain, but that may not be too obvious):

Here's a couple of slightly older ones, with the DA* 300. Zoo pics, obviously, due to a lack of free-roaming Mandrills in the greater Amsterdam area. I'm not entirely unhappy with that fact.

He was just trying to make a funny I think @boriscleto and I are of the same generation and geographical area where we see the word "meadowlark" we immediately think of Meadowlark Lemon, the great Harlem Globetrotter...

500/8 mirror can be tough to use in less than bright light - I know, I have an MTO 500/8. Did the cardinal move while you shot him?

Do you have Lightroom?
I've recently incorporated Nik collection into my workflow. It's a remarkable collection or free tools to use in Lightroom and Photoshop.
To handle noise, I use Dfine2 from the Nik collection. You can manually adjust noise by using control points. Changing the view 'Mode' from [RGB] to [Contrast Noise Mask] you can see what areas will be affected by each control point.

The first image below is a shot at 300% - Hopefully you can see the pixels and the level of noise in the background.

The next 5 shots are the process in Lightroom/Dfine2

The last shot is post noise reduction in Dfine2, again at 300% for comparison.

Hopefully this helps a little... If you have Lightroom, or are considering it, I'd highly suggest downloading the Nik collection and seeing how it could tie into your PP workflow.

Cheers!
