I discovered a Yellow Crowned Night Heron in my dead oak yesterday around sunset and went into a frenzy. The F* 600/4 was set up on the tripod with a K-3 so I took some shots immediately but ISO levels were high so I worried about the noise and switched to the K-1 (but forgot to turn the SR off) and, with the light waning, broke out the AF 540 flash with Better Beamer. Here's what I got:
Now, you may ask (as I did) "What's a YNCH doing in a tree 250 feet above the stream?" My guess is that s/he had just arrived from the South and was looking for the perennial nesting colony on the trib about a mile away. FWIW, it didn't spend the night.
