The Chestnut-vented Nuthatch, a species of bird in the Sittidae family. It is found in Bangladesh, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Saw some of you posted over here too.

we call them Coots here, too.
Common Gallinule comes no closer to B.C. than California, whereas American Coot is common in southern B.C.

All About Birds disagrees. botiscleto is correct. The term for the above is Gallinule.
The American Ornithologists' Union originally considered the North American gallinule to be a distinct species: Common Gallinule (Gallinula galeata. Then, for a few years they lumped it with Europe's Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus). After new research was published recently, they split them again, so we're back to Common Gallinule for the North American version.

Typically at this time of the year the tree on Points of Ceders Island in the Little Assawoman Bay in DE would house about 15 to 20 nests, typically Herons. This year, due to farm run off and septic tank run off from over building the island is dying. The tree is dead. I didn't see a single GBH on the tree - certainly no nest. This was a great place to kayak or take a small boat and watch the birds grow. You could also get close since the birds protect their young.
There were a few birds still on the island including this young egret resting with its eyes closed and then waking up to song. Sadly the tree will probably collapse by next spring from rot.

It's a spot about 20 minutes from my house, and you have to dodge mountain bikers and dog walkers, but I always find something to photograph there.

Another evening shoot.

Migration seem to have brought in Tennessee Warblers. A remarkably unremarkable bird...

They were coming through Galveston in the hundreds a few weeks ago. It felt like every time I saw a bird and looked through the viewfinder, it was a Tennessee. Some people were listing them by the millions on Ebird.
