Two more BIF shots during my earlier trip. Black-headed Sibia in BIF mode, taken with Pentax K70 + Sigma 150-500mm.

I frequent Seabrook Wildlife Refuge more than any other place due to the variety of wildlife. Sometimes, I venture off the trail and make my way into the woods. A little ways off the trail, there is a small pond surrounded by trees and vegetation. The vegetation is so thick, that are only two places that I can get to, that will give me a clear view of the pond. I've seen an alligator here before, but have only managed head shots as it was in the water each time I saw it. In March I managed to catch the alligator out of the water.

They say portraits with an 85mm are great. I wonder if you could have gotten closer to that gator

Nice shot!

It's a nice day to shoot, the bugs aren't completely terrible yet. The next week is supposed to rain and be overcast. This is the right time of year for sun angle on our porch feeders. Everything was a go.

K-3 and tamron 300 2.8 with HD DA 1.4 TC.

For a small bird, they have relatively course feather detail. If you get the sun at the right angle and they look very sharp. But the key is to having the sun at the right angle to have a bit of shadow behind each shaft on the feather.

Excellent photos. Do you have a link to those settings? I am curious to see.

Thanks! If I had access to get around to that side, I would have gotten closer. That alligator isn't going to attack me. It knows that I am too big to eat. At most, I will scare it back into the water, which is what I don't want to do. I don't like to disturb them. Just watch, get some pics, let them be, and move on. Besides, if it did give chase, they're only fast in a straight line for a small amount of time.

Another angle of the alligator in the woods from the other point of access.

And another of a much smaller alligator for size comparison, seen about a mile and a half away.
