Your results with that 55-330 DA L seem to be getting better and better. I was out with my DA L looking for some bumble bees visiting the borage when a flash of bright yellow (escaped canary?) went overhead. Waiting for half an hour for it to come back was a waste of time, all I got was a pigeon.
thank you

Me too.
I am learning to try and get the settings in my mind to suit the subject. I have found that using centre spot focussing, centre weighted metering and TAV (to select a shutter speed and aperture) is the default set up on the camera now.
I try to always have a hood on a lens, change the White Balance to suit the conditions and most importantly, try and keep the camera and lens as steady as I can. SR may be great and provide 2, 3 or 4 stops but I rock and wobble quite a bit and often the SR cannot compensate. To help I have invested in a monopod (with a "Z" frame tripod/monopod head coming from China to allow tilt).
Photography is great but getting good images is paramount to me getting as much enjoyment from it as I can.
I also need to work on composition and "seeing" a good image before trying to take it. I suspect I will always be lacking there. Luckily there are always accidental shots that please me.

Kevriano, I had the DAL version of the 55-300 and liked it alot. But the PLM with its silent and fast focus has helped with my birding greatly. It does take a little more light but is very usable. Well worth it to me. Thanks.
Thanks. I also had the DAL, but the screwdriver drove me nuts, it was so loud.

Interestingly, it is generally only the photographer that even hears the screw drive AF. I supplied the K-3 to a fellow Knight of Columbus' wife for a news photo op. I couldn't hear the K-3 and lens from 10 feet away indoors. I thought she wasn't taking the photos, but she had it on continuous AF and continuous high drive.

I can hear it but I haven't noticed that any of my " targets " have reacted to it.

Interesting. My first outing with it was at a Zoo Park. The male Lion most definitely heard it, judging by the whip around of his head and the death stare he gave me...

today when I checked on the spider web I had been photographing I notice a big hole had been torn in it. I then noticed something else

at first I thought it was an insect caught in the web but now I think not

Did it have a fish hook in it? Perhaps it's the Ginger Quill dry fly I lost last week. ;~)

I am liking this DA L 55-300mm, a little cropping and increase in contrast.

I find the need to crop and pp work an indication of "operator error" and not a fault of either the camera or the lens

I too am really enjoying my recently acquired Smc PENTAX-DA L 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED I think it is the equal or better of my Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 LD Tele-Macro [1:2] (Model 772D)

it gives me more " room " on the short end: 55 - 69 mm, although it does lack the Tammy's ability to do 1:2 at 300 mm

I'm glad I found and bought it

lame (wood ) duck - can only do circles note leg

1 as originally photographed

2 with slight crop and pp
