Following kengoh is like being the kid with a wagon and shovel who follows the mounted police in a parade. All the glory came before. Oh well.

There are huge numbers of geese and cranes migrating through the Midwest right now (these are from southern Saskatchewan). The Geese are mostly Snows, with smaller numbers of Canada, Ross's and White-fronted. The Snow Geese are in two forms - white and "blue" (grey with white heads). The young ones have dark heads. They are very skittish, taking flight as soon as a vehicle approaches, so it was a challenge to photograph them and some of these are major crops. All taken with K-3 and DA*300mm, with and without the 1.4xTC.

Cranes to follow.

K5 + adaptall 60B 300mm f2.8 + 1.4x tc sigma APO (I have been posting some comparison test pics between 1.4x tc's here ). This combo is heavier and less convenient to carry than the FD 400mm + NX20, that fits conveniently in an old jessop tripod bag and I can just grab it and throw it over my shoulder. But it takes pretty good pics.
I don't tend to have much luck photographically along the coastal path. But there were lots of curlews:

And sheep!

And ducks!

And a black headed gull, now with (almost) winter plumage.

Cormorant at the RSPB, big crop (X-post with adaptall lens club)

The "target bird" for our trip - Whooping Cranes. Although they are increasing in numbers the wild population is still only 4-500. They were about 400 yards away so quite a test for my K-3 and DA* 300mm plus 1.4xTC
Here's the family group of 3 with some Sandhills.

Thanks Robert - we spent 2 1/2 days cruising the back roads east and south of Saskatoon - the Whoopers were near Meacham, to the east of the City.
The restaurants are great in Saskatoon - just the one hamburger, and not a "Whopper".
