Great pics once again Gary.
Been a bit quiet at the RSPB lately, though migrating birds have been passing through - 3 goosanders the other day. And there hasn't been much sun either. Yesterday was sunny however, and one of the cormorants obliged with poses that perfectly caught the low autumnal sun. Now if only I could get a bit closer so as to fill 3/4 of the frame instead of 1/4... where's the guy with the portaboat...
Adaptall 300mm f2.8 + sigma apo 1.4x tc, K5, bean bag. I am becoming more enamoured of this combo, visual focus seems really "on" (with tenpa 1.36x VF magnifier) , when I check with live view there is usually no discrepancy. F4 ((with tc) makes a big difference over f5.6 and slower, and even the barely half a stop over the FD 400mm's f4.5 is making a difference I think, though its hard to tell given the very different characteristics of the EVF on the samsung NX20.
These were the 3 best shots IMO. I used the brush in LR3 a bit to bring up the body of the bird. I'm exclusively shooting in M with a PKM mount with this combo due to the mechanical aperture issues I mentioned previously - a PKA mount won't engage into AE. It's a bit weird because the sigma tc makes the camera think its in Av - F numbers display. I have to ignore those, but make sure a high enough f number is displayed, otherwise the K5 won't stop the lens all the way down to what I have set on the ring (somewhere between f5.6 and f8 for these).
ISO 400 (#1, 2), 800 (#3).
With a passing pochard.
