Shooting from the same boot holes with the DA*200 and 1.4 TC for 280mm, hand held. One Jay with the K-3, same Jay with the K-1. Some people say it's not so much difference.... I'm not one of them.

K-3 Jay....

Same bird, same position, same lens, feet in the same boot holes in the snow. This shows difference between a K-3 and a K-1. There is little vignetting using the DA*200 and 1.4 TC on the K-1 at ƒ5,

And a bonus K-1 Chickadee.

Thanks for the comparison, Norm. I guess you are referring mainly to FOV. Seems to me a little more feather detail in the K-1 shot - but that might be because it's f8 rather than f5 for the K-3 image (both are ISO 400).

Ya, I don't know how I messed that up so bad....I thought I was shooting a constant ƒ8 but some are f-8, some are f9 one is f11. that one was ƒ5. For working with gloves on a lock function would be a godsend.

Half the time I have an opportunity for a test in the field, something get's messed up, in this case the Aperture. But, ƒ5.6 APS-c should be the same DoF as ƒ8 FF so, it shouldn't be too far off.

Norm,
I can see the difference between your shots of the blue jay. Really like the K-1 better.

I tried to wake the little owl up so I could get it with its eyes open. This is the best I could do with out running it off.

Warning: equivalence discussion imminent.

The DOF doesn't make any difference with these images. But, assuming you have good light (so the shutter speed is fast enough that the difference doesn't matter) and the ISO remains the same, might there not be a difference in resolution stopping down one stop on the K-1 to get the same DOF? Whether that's for better or worse would depend on the lens and how far it is stopped down, of course. But even a really good prime like my FA*300 f4.5 is generally going to be a little better one stop down than wide open. On the other hand going from f8 to f11 it's going to be a little worse. I guess the difference would be more marked with a slowish zoom like the Bigma.

Ok these were taken with a chinese 420-800 $126.00 special. The tree with the cicarta shells on it was 14m away the green leaf tree was 20m away the depth of field of this lens is 2-3 feet at this distamce and as its a fixed aperture this will not change so this lens is only useable on still subjects would make a superior flower lens I think but not a lot more. For what it is I like it I will be able to use it and I have seen much worse.

For these shots it was extended to 800mm so I guess thats close to 1200 old school analogue, and the lens is basis no aperture ring just glass and the t-mount adapter I think is machined to miss the electrial contacts on your camera Av and TAv I use it in. The ev+/- is very sensitive at the 800mm.
