Wow. I didn't know Carpodacus could be so dark. Did you take this in Singapore? How far south does Vinaceous Rosefinch winter?
Nope Pete, it was taken at Alishan (Mount Ali), Taiwan ROC during my vacation on last December

Oh, that explains everything. It didn't look like a native Singapore species. Incidentally, researchers found that the rosefinch in Taiwan has genetically differentiated from the mainland Vineaceous Rosefinch (Carpodacus vinaceus). That's not surprising, considering that the two populations are hundreds of kilometres apart and don't have long-distance migration. As a result, they recommended that the Taiwan Rosefinch be considered a distinct species (C. formosanus).

Glad you're "cheating"! Wonderful to see this photo.

Wonderful clicks. The lens is super sharp even after adding TC.

Gotta say, after a decade of skipping from one APSC flagship to the next for more than a decade, I'm rather enjoying the extended lull with the K-3. I got a K-1, which pretty much has distinct uses (enforced, to some extent, by it's weight) but the K-3s (I have 2) are my old reliable for long lens and knock-about shooting. I wouldn't mind improvements but the the K-3 has earned its remarkable run as far as I'm concerned.

Second shot of the little female on the wing is wonderful, I'm green with envy (unless it's an upset stomach)

White Ibises like a good splash now and then.

Snowy Egret. They come to the fishing pier at Sanibel Island looking for scraps. Great spot for close views.

Thanks. I would describe the A 400/5.6 + 1.4x-L combo as "decently sharp". And the CA is significant. But as a package it is a relatively inexpensive (and light) way to get near 600mm, and the focus ring is wonderful to use, so smooth and damped.

I know you are being flippant, Allen, but as a lawyer, you could interpret the thread title literally, as referring to lenses that are 300mm or more. It doesn't preclude photos at shorter focal lengths taken with those lenses. ;-)

The thread started as being about only the F*/FA*300 f4.5, then drifted into discussion of other 300mm primes, until at post #88 came this:

How about the 300mm+ club, then I can post some Bigma pictures when it arrives tomorrow
The suggestion was immediately accepted by the OP (who hasn't posted on the forum since 2011). @Mike.P® is still an active member, so he can weigh in here, but for my part, while the thread is clearly mainly about long tele, if you are going to talk about the merits of the Bigma I don't see any harm in discussing its performance below 300mm as well as above. The occasional shot at 290mm isn't going to change the nature of the thread.

Enough talk. Some parrot images with the K-30 and Sigma 400mm f5.6 Tele Macro (this is the one with the 77mm filter thread).
