Gotta say, after a decade of skipping from one APSC flagship to the next for more than a decade, I'm rather enjoying the extended lull with the K-3. I got a K-1, which pretty much has distinct uses (enforced, to some extent, by it's weight) but the K-3s (I have 2) are my old reliable for long lens and knock-about shooting. I wouldn't mind improvements but the the K-3 has earned its remarkable run as far as I'm concerned.
Of course the K3 was a unique body when it came out, the first 24mp apsc body by Pentax, and quite a jump over 16mp. I've enjoyed the first years of shooting it.
But it is little things combined that have lessened my satisfaction with the K3, and it varies from the dated high iso output, to the more and more irritating (to me) zip-zip-zip AF (instead of zip-lock) with the DA560 to the annoyance that I get unreliable performance if I don't always keep the battery at full charge. I guess I parted mentally from the K3 the moment its mirror started flipping like a machine gun when I stressed the AF. For me, 5 years with the K3 has been enough, and I read about the better high iso from the KP, the improved AF reliability, the better stabilization.

If Pentax would only take these things, put in a new AF module (I mean, honestly, how long do they want to stay at 20 something AF points for their best APS-C body?), put a proper processor in, and call it K-whatever, I will buy it. Should not be so hard, should it. I cannot see why they don't simply make that new APS-C body, and put it out. It just doesn't dawn on me what on earth they are stalling for...

I know you are being flippant, Allen, but as a lawyer, you could interpret the thread title literally, as referring to lenses that are 300mm or more. It doesn't preclude photos at shorter focal lengths taken with those lenses. ;-)

The thread started as being about only the F*/FA*300 f4.5, then drifted into discussion of other 300mm primes, . . .
very true

when I started to post my photos in this thread I was worried that I was crossing the line because my photos were all taken with a zoom lens as opposed to a prime lens of 300mm or more

to be perfectly clear, I have no problem with someone posting in this thread regardless of the focal length of the lens used to take the photo or whether the lens is a prime or zoom lens

I agree my 300mm lens can zoom to 28mm and most of the time when I am using it I haven't a clue to the focal length until I see the eixf when posted my 300mm lense has a good range thats all so good that I have 3 of these what about a 135mm lens with a 3x converter what are the rules there? Seriously this is the best thread and its nice to have a wide angle shot thrown in once in a while as these crop shots that cut out half the image like half an animal head and stuff its not real interesting except maybe a close up of an eye or a set of sharp teeth. I am liking some of the sharpness in an image dislike the excessive tint use. These days you can take a bad photo and make it look better than a really good photo and that is disturbing.

This is about a 420mm Hand held.

Slight rain and cool here, but the female cardinal comes up to pose when I put the dog food out. A*400 f2.8 manual focus today, no AF1.7 adaptor to keep the ISO down.

I was lucky enough to cross this Snowy Owl today... It flew from a top of a barn to the top of a tree, where the moon filled the background.
I have to tell it's my lady that provided me the idea to position myself in order to cath them both in the frame... Thanks to my beloved! :-)

Here's another "wish I had taken that one." Such photo-ops come along very rarely, Congrats for making the most of the opportunity.
