K-3 and Tamron SP AF 300 ƒ2.8 ED [IF] and F 1.7x AF adapter for 510mm ƒ4.5
ISO 640, ƒ6.3, 1/3200s
I was out briefly today and lucked into adding bird to my "one per bird" photo album, a Red Crossbill. This is pretty typical of their habits, sitting on the top branch of a fir tree. I have another one, that was backlit and not nearly as sharp, not good enough to post.
The guy beside me was hand holding and had the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm F4G ED VR and bragged it was only 3880 grams and easy to hand hold. Having looked up the price for that lens before, I didn't have the heart to tell him my Tammy weighs considerably less, even with the 1.7 attached, giving me 510 ƒ4.5. I just held it briefly and said "very nice."
