I was told by our guru it is most probably a Cooper's Hawk, because the eye is close to the beak, whereas the Sharp-shinned hawk is more in the center of the head (as in below's pic) but having the complete tail in the photo would have helped confirm the ID.
That was the 1st guess of other members too... (so do I)

Ref: Coopers Hawk vs. Sharp-Shinned Hawk Identification
Thank you! I appreciate you going to all that trouble; I'm sure learning a lot about these two hawks! I really appreciate everyone's help in this ID!

Because you reposted that image image here, I'll repost the comment I made on the other thread

Good thing you weren't listening to someone just then . Seriously, that is imaginative and well-executed, but almost all of the images you post are impressive and inspiring.

OT I know but I just have to share this comment from a non-photography site (where it was also OT):
"We have lots of Canadian geese, but Canada is not sending its best birds, buhlieve me."

When I was working in Chicago, the Canada goose was a pest: They didn't enjoy goose exhaust at all. I still don't.

Some pretty dangerous conditions along the coast here at the moment, with most surfers needing to be towed in by jet skis:

K-3 and Tamron SP AF 300 ƒ2.8 ED [IF] and F 1.7x AF adapter for 510mm ƒ4.5
ISO 640, ƒ6.3, 1/3200s

I was out briefly today and lucked into adding bird to my "one per bird" photo album, a Red Crossbill. This is pretty typical of their habits, sitting on the top branch of a fir tree. I have another one, that was backlit and not nearly as sharp, not good enough to post.

The guy beside me was hand holding and had the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm F4G ED VR and bragged it was only 3880 grams and easy to hand hold. Having looked up the price for that lens before, I didn't have the heart to tell him my Tammy weighs considerably less, even with the 1.7 attached, giving me 510 ƒ4.5. I just held it briefly and said "very nice."

Surf envy...
Water temp is 36F here and I gotta squeeze into a 5mm wetsuit to even begin thinking about the paddle out.

Those conditions looks fun!
Especially in boardshorts!

Rough break Dave.

But the birds will find another place to perch, and you will find another vantage point.

Nice looking deck. The stonework looks earthy, rugged.

So I hate to break up this fine parade of (mostly) bird photos, but I have a unique image made with a 300mm lens.

Unique you ask? Eveyone has a 300 or longer lens.

Sure they do.

But how many shoot 26 frames with one, then stitch them together in a panorama?
