I went searching for owls this weekend
K3ii and DFA 150-450, handheld at 450, 23 degrees out and howling wind

Northern saw-whet owl

And I'm cheating here at 290 mm, but failing light, handheld, 16 degrees and near frostbitten fingers... Not bad for ISO 5000!
Long-eared owl
wow!
5000 ISO on the K-3ii?

I typically force myself to stay under 1600... I might have to re-think that!

Great shots!

5000 ISO is not a problem on the K-3 either, if you don't crop in much

A few more from the same weekend outing, this time a pair of rough-legged hawks

K3ii and DFA 150-450 again, all at 450 mm handheld

Because you reposted that image image here, I'll repost the comment I made on the other thread

Good thing you weren't listening to someone just then . Seriously, that is imaginative and well-executed, but almost all of the images you post are impressive and inspiring.

450mm on the 150-450, this is wide open at f5.6.

The Pelican seems ungainly until you see them in action. Here's one on the prowl. This one missed but still great to watch.

Cheers mate,

The conditions were really good for a few days, I wished I lived closer to a surf coast to get out there more often.

Another with the 150-450 @450mm.

Here is what the sculpture will ultimately look like:

It could be a while until the sculpture looks like that.

Yes, I belive you are right. The artist that conceived it made it his life's work, and his widow continued to pursue the completion of it until she passed away.

It likely will not be finished in my lifetime either.

But it is still a noble thing to do, I think.

WOW that lens is superb.

Of course any lens is subject to the ability of the eye behind the eyepiece, and this series is a fine example of what a fine eye can do with a fine lens.

+1 (at least) on those comments. Enviable work, but I've seen very few images from zzeitg that were less than excellent
