Recently I've been using a Panasonic/Leica 100~400mm on an Olympus OMD EM10 mk II. The first image below taken @ 400mm is straight out of the camera, no PP. The shadow along the base is the car on which I was bracing the lens. The second image is cropped and run through PP = sharpening, smoothing, tweaking color and contrast, etc. To obtain the final image on FF without cropping would require something well over 1000mm. I'm pretty pleased with the performance of this zoom. PS: Notice the flies or wasps off the left side of the nest.

I finally got to test out my DA 300. I really like the lens so far. The only thing that I wish it had is a focus limiter. The lens is a little bit slower to rack through the focus range and this would help a lot. Everything else about the lens is great.

All of these were taken using the TC. After testing with and without I see no reason to not use the TC unless I need the f/4 aperture in low light. This is a really great combination. These are all stopped down to F/8 for depth of field reasons and not because I "had to." Here are a few of my test images.

Congratulation to your new lens! DA*300 and 1.4x TC get along very well. It's definitely my most favourite walkaround lens combo (since I'm not yet trained enough to run with DA560 very far).

Took the new combo out for an outing. I ended up keeping the TC on the whole time. I'm really liking this combo!

I'm glad you are liking it. Once my taxes are filed I will go and pick up (well order) the TC to go with the DA*300mm I bought last month.

This is for anyone who owns or is thinking about the DA 560 and/or the DA1.4 converter. They both can take excellent, beautiful photos, they both can take not so excellent, not so beautiful photos. Somehow I think the person behind the lens is in control of most of this! But here is a modification made to the DA 560, [3 months old] which I took a distant shot of, now it has perfect balance on a Wimberly without a battery grip. Yes, we do have a weight bag to attach to the bottom of the tripod to stabilize it but you don't carry rocks for 200 yards [ with the camera and tripod] unless there are nor rocks where you are going! Plenty of rocks here..... Ricoh should consider this option of reversing the foot for the DA 560....

Here's a little trick I use, I have a loop of 8mm rubber cord which I attach to the tripod hook, and then put my foot in the loop and stretch the rubber down to the ground. It needs a bit of trial and error to get it all setup right.
Works well and weighs next to nothing.

Cheers,
Terry

K-1 + FA*250-600 @ 280mm (ok not 300m, but it's about the focal length or the lens itself? )

Coucher de soleil / Sunset
