The repair shop couldn't find anything wrong with the K-3 and my own interval test of 200 shots confirmed that. They said they had never heard of the custom image setting spontaneously changing (happened 3 times from "bright" to "cross-processing"). The mirror flop happened when the battery was very low and it was quite cold (though not by normal Algonquin standards) - I have ordered some new batteries.
I have one battery that only holds enough juice for 150 pictures. (Probably the original from my K-5) I'll have to check and see if it's in the camera.

Definitely not cute if it's the last thing you see before you die.

White-throated KF @ f6.3, 1/400, ISO 800

Nice shots guys! Some test shots from the DA*300mm F4 @ f6.3 (K70 with the Kenko Pz-AF 1.4x). I'm still in the process on trying out more stopped down shots with this combination...

I've seen a few snow buntings this winter but I've never been able to get close enough for a shot like that (even if I had a <600mm lens). Congratulations!
