Well, this one seems to have a barcode but I still don't know what it is.
I'm not sure but I think it's a Golden-headed Cisticola: Golden-headed Cisticola | BirdLife Australia Nice get. I've only seen them a couple of times.

I thought Cisticola too, but then I've only seen them in southern Africa - didn't know Australia had them as well.

Some Long-tailed Duck before they head back to the Arctic:

This male is looking a bit bedraggled - moving into the more black, white and brown breeding plumage

Lots of American Robins around as well...

then would you use a wide angle or macro lens?
Depends of course -- peacock or hummer?

Thanks Des, from the link I'm sure you're right.

No wonder I couldn't find it in my Simpson & Day.

Testing the M*300mm on K1. The camera Is new and my first digital, so my skills with the settings weren’t the best. Along with the excitement of seeing dolphins from the deck of the house...I didn’t take time to adjust. This was at 1600ISO, 1/500, I’m guessing stopped down to f8 - plus I cropped in PP. Not as impressive as the beautiful shots here, but still a personal favorite of mine.

That's quite a view from your deck! I think you did really well getting the dolphin in pretty good focus with a MF lens. In good light like that you could probably push the shutter speed a bit higher, even if you had to widen the aperture a little. 1600 ISO doesn't seem to be a problem on the K-1.

There are two species here. The other is called "Zitting Cisticola", which (to borrow a line from Sean Dooley) sounds like something nasty and contagious. ;-)

Yes I don't think I could have picked it if I had never seen one.

not sure but these Golden Pheasants found in the Henry Doorly Zoo's aviary might be related to yours
An old shot (also from a zoo), but I guess it's the same pretty boy.

Lil'Bigma at Montezuma NWR, today was the first day the wildlife drive was open...

Very bright sun, and I made things worse by not turning SR off...

Amazing that Tree Swallows migrate from Mexico and Central America and then hang around with nothing to eat for weeks...

At another part of the refuge...

I stopped at a nature center on the way home that has a great feeder setup to test out my new 55-300 WR, not much around though...

Here's another, from yesterday.
Quite often see them near Woodlands Historic Park, Westmeadows end, near Moonee Ponds Creek, where this was shot.
Lots them at the Western Treatment Plant.

K-1, DFA 150-450 + HD DA 1.4x TC, handheld. See exif for shot details.

Cheers,
Terry

Dark Eyed Junco in our local colour phase. K-3 and M 400/5.6 on Manfrotto 055B with LensMaster RH-2 Gimbal Head, wired remote. The bird is on the ground beneath a tree gobbling seeds dropped from a feeder last fall and exposed by snow melting over the last couple of days. The image was taken through a double paned, not overly clean, door. I'm not disappointed with the old lens' treatment.

ISO 800, 1/60 @ f/11. Exposure by Green button on woods behind. Slight exposure and contrast adjustments in LR 6 CC. Cropped to 1209x804 px and uploaded at that size. Does this make this a 1:1?
