Impressive, but with a subject like that, I think I would rather have 1000 mm.

The only thing this alligator cared about was getting some sun. I have another one of it shot at 270mm.

...and 150mm. Notice the way it's laying. It's in the worst position to attack or run away. It knew that I was too big to be a meal, so it likely would have ran away. If I got too close, it would have let me know by changing its position. Instead, it saw me and was falling asleep while I was shooting. The blood on its teeth makes me think that it had just eaten.

This next one, shot at 450mm, did not like me being near.

It swam towards me from a distance, and then kept raising its head out of the water growling and bellowing at me. Not wanting to cause it anymore stress, I shot my pics and moved on.

Des, I particulary love the first one - I looked on flickr to see the whole thing instead of scrolling down through the image. Really lovely.
I googled the plane rego VH-SEH and found it was "destroyed" in 1988. It has obviously been rebuilt. I don't know anything (well, not much!) about aircraft registrations, but was surprised that the rego was renewed rather than a new rego issued, as the crash was servere; impact and fire - the rebuild must have been almost a new plane.
Perhaps a Forum member might bring some light to the matter.

Most likely the rego number was reused on a different airplane.

My mother owned an American Yankee, AA1A, N number (rego) N6108L. She sold it to a guy in California, who decided to fly it to Oshkosh for the annual EAA flyin. Somewhere over Kansas he ran low on fuel, and fearing he would not make it to the next airstrip where fuel was available he decided to set it down in a field.

Unfortunately he chose a freshly plowed field rather than one that had not yet been turned. The loose soil caught the landing gear and the plane did a ground loop. He was only injured slightly, but the plane was destroyed.

I did a recent search on the N number, and found it is now used on an air tractor (crop duster).

So at least in the US the numbers are reused.

Perhaps that is done in Australia too.

Makes sense Racer, but in this case it seems to be the very same aircraft. This site shows a photo of the plane in 1987 (before the crash) and another in 1998, after it was "restored": VH-SEH 1

As of 15/May/2018 VH-SEH has the same constructors number as the crashed aircraft. So one and the same.

For the Yankee that was my mom's plane?

No.

It has been reused on an air tractor (crop duster).

Mom's Yankee was similar to this one, only all yellow:

The Air Tractor that is currently using the N6108L number is this one:

I went back yesterday to see if I could find any more alligators. Caught this one in the late afternoon / early evening. K3 - 150-450 at 330mm.

While walking along the trail, there was a couple that had two small children. The wife stopped me and asked me if I had seen anything further up the trail. I told her what I saw, and where-about to expect seeing it. While I was talking to her, the husband was eyeballing me up and down. From the way he was looking at me, I had a feeling he was going to say something stupid to assert his manliness in front of his woman, but he kept quiet. She told me thanks for the tip, I said good luck, and we went our separate ways.

A bit later, we all happened upon the gator above about the same time. I didn't say anything to them when I walked up, and just went to take my pictures. While I was shooting the pic above, she said "That's a nice camera". Before I could say thanks, the husband said "That's cheap junk, you can get that at walmart for 30 bucks, lets go" He grabbed her arm, and they started to walk away.

I could just tell from the way he was looking at me the first time, he had something stupid to say, but cheap junk? walmart? 30bucks? I actually questioned if I had heard what I did. I wanted to say something back to him, but knew it would only escalate things and I didn't want a broken camera. Plus, I was standing in between him and this alligator so I just let it go. I don't need to prove anything.

Good move (or no move). Dude has issues.
OTOH, you did let us all down by not sticking up for the brand.
Oh, yeah: terrific photo!

That's right.

Like the fact that the woman married a nitwit.

No doubt the nitwit has a Rebel he bought in 1995 with the kit lens. There are some people in this world. She is abused emotionally if not physically, but we cannot solve her problem here. I just pity her.

I place feeders for the hummingbirds around my home. At the peak of the season (around late June) I usually have 10 feeders up, and will go through around 3 liters of syrup a day. I hang them from the eaves, using copper wire salvaged from the trailer house we lived in before building our house. On some of them I left a bit of wire as a perch, and this Rufous has taken to use it as a place to defend "his" feeder from the other birds.

The little guy sits there for hours on end, looking this way and that.

And when another bird approaches, he leans in the direction it is coming from before flying off to chase the interloper away.

I would say otherwise, nicely caught light, especially with the warbler

Moon. Getting ready to Stargaze.

For Aussies, as most know Brian Cox is here, and Stargazing is on again.

Popped out the backdoor just now, caught the moon rising up.
