I am almost 100 % certain that this animal is a coyote, not a wolf despite that it was in a known wolf transit area in YNP and drew quite a crowd

1 because I was able to photograph it you really don't get many chances to see let alone photograph a wolf and usually not close up at all

2 it was just calmly walking along

but I am amazed how little cover it took for it to disappear, especially when only a few yards away

the first is crop but otherwise SOOC, others SOOC
Sure looks like a coyote to me.

There were some nesting under a culvert near where I take my beaver images in Algonquin Park, The DoT has to put up structures for them to nest when they replace such culverts. They are pretty much ineffective though, maybe these guys picked this place as their new location.

This is happening all over Ontario, all DoT culverts are being doubled in size to alleviate the effects of intense weather cells created by global warming. The problem being despite spending all that money no one checks to see if the Swallows actually will use those structures. The DoT just follows the letter of the law and really doesn't care.

I'll try and get a picture of one. Apparently they've been erected all over Ontario, where ever cliff swallows roosted in culverts.

I'm not right up on swallow behavior, but we've had phoebes nesting under the eaves of the tool shed for decades. I set up an alternate, slightly larger platform for them under the eaves, but they persisted in re-using the old, more precariously perched nest, year after year, long enough that at least three or four generations of birds raised chicks in the same bug-ridden spot. Perhaps the swallows have similar devotion to a chick-raising location that has been successful in the past, many birds are, eagles and osprey come to mind immediately.

And another sad story. Years back a big supermarket went up in a nearby town. To level the parking area, a large amount of soil/sand/gravel was bulldozed to the side and mounded into a huge pile. Swallows burrowed into the steepest side and it grew into a significant nesting colony, twenty or more pairs. I kept putting off getting pictures as I was still working. Then, after leaving the mound untouched for perhaps eight years, they dug it up and trucked it away. Very difficult to find such ideal conditions for those birds to nest = soft enough to dig but firm enough not to collapse. A crying shame it was destroyed - for what reason? Because someone needed fill and someone else could get a little money by selling some dirt?

More posing

He is on my hammock”s twisted tree strap. I think seeds, or bugs or something were in the twisted crevices.

I recall some years ago meeting with a pro in his shop in Jasper, AB and he noticed I was sporting the KX and hauled out his LX and the M*300 -- what a gorgeous piece of kit that was. I don't even remember the rest of his gear, but I can see his Hailiburton to this day with that lovely M* in it.

And you, sir, with the help of the cardinal, surely showed off to its best.

First bird attempt with da* 60-250 + HD 1.4

Hello, if 250x1.4= 350 is allowed here to be part of the 300mm plus, I just don't know what kind of bird it is but it has a very annoying voice, especially at 4.00 AM
Handled, crop around 35%, F 6.3

That's probably black or common redstart (Hausrotschwanz oder Gartenrotschwanz).

I like the hair on the ears of your squirrels. Ours are quite dull looking by comparison.

Me too.

Yep agree with above, those squirrels are done well, and those ear hairs make them interesting.

I'll give this message to the squirrels once they reappear in our garden, guys. Thanks!

Thanks, they are named after the Male in breeding plumage. However, it's not breeding season.

This is what the Male looks like now. Note the dark beak, dark blue tail and no orange around the eyes.
