Here's the SOOC jpeg:
And here's the crop, after a bit of colour adjustment and sharpening in RawTherapee. What a lens!
Fine shot, well done. And a perfect illustration of what a skilled photographer can do with a premium tele lens that couldn't be done with an xx-300 consumer zoom. Your crop would be say 8-10% of the original image - can't hide any lack of resolution there.

Yeah, I've done some experiments with ultra-long arrangements. Lighting and atmospheric conditions have to be optimal and technique has to be perfect. Luck helps as well. Still, I have to give it a try--right?
Nothing ventured - - - It only takes time to experiment. Unlike the film era, only time is lost.

Thank you all for your kind words! Forgot to say that I also used magnified Live View and manual focus. I should also have taken a test shot with AF, but didn't think to. I'm fairly sure that wouldn't have been a keeper...

Wouldn't say I'm particularly skilled, compared to many here. But it's nice to share the results when I do get lucky!

Cheers

Jonathan

300mm f4 Oly on an Oly OM10 mkII, equivalent to 600mm on FF. Just testing a little to see what it can do. If you'll excuse, and even if you don't, looks sharp (get the point?). Modestly cropped.

Agreed. When I opened my files during a trip last winter I found some pictures of crossbills were in bleach bypass mode. Not what I was looking for.

We pulled over for one fox by the side of the road - then there two, then three.

I had to remove the TC as they were so close (and the light wasn't great), so this is just with the K-3 and the DA*300mm.
Wow. Great shots. Loved the 2nd one.

They are usually quite shy. I have yet to get any keeper of them.
Were these taken in TO?
A few years ago, in Moore Park Ravine (Rosedale) a pair of foxes had a den and kits within 10 feet of the trail. The kits frolicked around outside the den with no fear of the numerous small groups of people passing by. It's a matter of habituation. If the people don't molest the foxes, the latter will ignore the former. However, as soon as the adult smelled or heard a dog on a leash coming up the path about 100 yards away, the adult vocalized and the kits instantly disappeared into the den. Dogs never leave fail to attempt to catch and kill the foxes, so the foxes act accordingly.

Baseball is derived from a version of cricket called "rounders", so it's not that different. The object is to to avoid striking out (when the ball hits the wicket), hit the ball where they ain't, make as many runs as you can before they can pick up the ball to tag you out. Sound familiar?

I posted a question about tripod collar recommendations for FA* 300mm f/4.5 over in the Pentax SLR Lens Discussion forum. I thought it would be better to give it its own thread, but I'm posting this link here since there are probably a lot of folks knowledgeable about the topic who read this thread.

Looks to me like the batsman in the shot mohb posted has just hit a grounder.

Maybe he can make it to second base before the wicket keeper can scoop it up and throw it to the second baseman.

The one that goes around the pitch, and you get four when the ball bumps over it.
