I was working a beer festival last night and since I had time after set up to walk around and enjoy myself, I pulled my KP out of the truck and got some shots of the Dry Cabin String Band's performance. First time shooting in Pentax's Hyper-Program mode, with the program line set to "MTF". I'm very happy with it!

55-300 plm at 300 (most other were around 150) from Shakespeare on the Common this year. I like that it has reach, but it's still a compact and relatively unobtrusive lens.

Moose are so ugly they are absolutely beautiful. What a lovely series of a lovely lady.
There is beauty in all things in nature.

Even in a homely moose.

I believe this is a Common Tern but not entirely sure - captured in Newcastle NSW (winter) - so non-breeding.

I love this A*300mm f2.8 and 1.4X L combo on the K3ii - stellar setup

The lens doesn't appear in the exif data, so it may have been the 600mm Nikon I sometimes use.

I was just checking the date that the original was taken which is before I squandered on the Nikon. As a second guess, therefore, the lens used was probably the 400mm f4 Tamron (now gone to another Pentax user).

If it looks like a squirrel, eats peanuts like a squirrel, and sits in trees like a squirrel...... I wonder if they sound like squirrels. Do they do that chatter thing where they cuss you out sitting safely on tree branch. Maybe Euro squirrels are more polite.

I think the chattering is a pine squirrel thing...

The Eurasian Red squirrel is in the same genus as the Fox squirrel (Otis) and the Eastern Gray squirrel. Gray squirrels were introduced to Europe, and especially in the UK, have led to a decline in Red squirrels. They were worried that the Red squirrel might be extirpated from the UK entirely. But the population seems to be balancing because of the resurgence of the European pine marten. It seems the Gray squirrel is too big to get to the ends of the thinnest branches. So the Gray squirrel becomes lunch and the Red squirrel survives

Note: We (= grad students learning vertebrate paleontology in detail) were always amused that our red squirrels were genus Tamiasciurus, sort of half-way between a grey squirrel = Sciurus, and a chipmunk = Tamias.

I agree. The lens produces great bokeh with pleasing colors and contrast.
