Nice series, the A 400 is a fun lens to use. It's got a good long reach, and light enough to handhold.

They help with 100mph fastballs so I'd think so.

Cricket batters need protection all the way around the head because the rules of the game mean they may turn during their shot and expose the side or back of the head too. One of the more recent deaths was a 1st class batter who was hit just below the helmet below and behind the ear. Grounded immediately and died a day or two later in hospital. The game was officially a First Class game with all the resource protection that would afford, such as well trained staff.

Taken with a Tokina 400mm f5.6 + Pentax K-70
Good results with this lens when there aren't very bright highlights in the scene.

Good catch. Now I know why they need a long beak.

Long-billed or Short-billed. I was on a bird walk with a guy who said he could tell the difference, I can't...

It can depend on timing. Here's a great resource for southbound shorebirds, for Ontario at least.

The only place I see them is in Montezuma, and they are usually both present...My best chance of getting them identified is to be on a Cayuga Bird Club walk with a bunch of people from Cornell

When I got the photo of the juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron a few weeks ago I was standing right next to Jay McGowan. It seems like most of the ID photos on Cornell's website are his...(At least for the birds I'm ever likely to see. Montezuma is a Globally Important Bird Area...)

I was careful with the sandpipers I posted above, as the "peeps" (semipalmated, least, western...) can be difficult as well. Nice to be able to check the photos against a few references when you get home.

From the Dixon Bioblitz a couple weekends ago. One day of photos processed and posted. The short day...

Common Yellowthroat Warbler female with lunch. I like the Halloween Pennant dragonfly cruising in the background.
