Such a beautiful and unusual looking bird. Good catch.

I finally catched up with the Pine Grosbeaks.

I have not came across the strikingly red male yet like Norm did. Hopefully tomorrow will be the day.
Thanks Swip! You got the great series too! Great shots!

Our floating bridge duck viewing spot was noisy today - Trumpeter Swans trumpeting, and Long-tailed Ducks calling, skittering across the water, and diving and surfacing (sometimes popping up on the other side of the bridge) a dozen or so at a time. The Ducks are back from the Arctic to spend the winter on the Great Lakes.

Target aquired!

It's nice when a plan comes together especially when it involves an elusive target.

Right time of year, in an area where I saw them last year and where I heard one last Thursday:

Sacred Kingfisher. K3, DA*300 + Tamron-F 1.4 TC and a lot of luck.

100% crops.

Backyard hawk in Park City. K-1 and DFA 150-450 handheld. Tricky focusing through all the branches. Probably should have used manual focus.

Thanks, but more good luck than good management I think...and generous amounts of PP :-)
These birds are notoriously difficult to get good detail with such dark plumage and looking at the unlit underside, against bright sky.
This is one shot of many that I am quite pleased with.

Cheers,
Terry
