Agree Siva! It's a very skittish (similar to the Lesser coucal which I'm still yet to get a good shot) and would not allow any comfortable distance, but to my surprise that this adult male seems to be friendly enough and consistently appear at around 9am in the morning to say Hi to the birders

Initial shot and revisit for my improved shot on next day .

The second shot of the goldeneye is an eye-stopper - a unique composition.

A rare day with sun so I took the DFA 150-450mm to the "Spinnies" (nr Penrhyn Castle), along with a sigma 400mm MC, and a tamron "Nestar" 400mm f6.9.
DFA, birds at the feeders, K3 f7.1.

I had quite a few missed focus shots - focussed on the feeder not the bird.
The kingfisher was prominent, but not close. This was my best long range effort with the DFA, full size 1:1 crop.

When the kingfisher moved into the bush the branches were fooling AF so I had to use MF, so I took careful shots using focus with magnification in LV, 2 secs timer, and I was reviewing the images and trying to fine tune the focus based on the review. Then I took the same shots with the sigma (f10, second) and the tamron (f11, bottom). Not a fair comparison, the kingfisher wasn't in the same position for the tamron (~ 5m closer).

And with the tamron on the K3 I missed the moment the kingfisher landed momentarily on a post in front of the hide... ah well next time.
PS eyebolt works good.

I like it. Recently I've got back into photography because of the season around here. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this. When setting my auto focus points represented by squares in my K-3, I find it better to use the red squares instead of the white squares.

That's not the case. These shots are more than 2 months old (I'm "slightly" behind with processing...).

What we have now is snow, snow with rain, rain, then snow again. And lot of wind.

(These small tits have already eaten whole 40 kg bag of sunflower seeds :-).)
