really cool shot! I hope to get an opportunity to spot these in the wild sometime.
Thanks Daniel. Great opportunities for whale watching in Australia and NZ. You'd find plenty of other wildlife too. :-)

Nice series of herons and egrets.

Went out to get better pictures of redpolls. This one from a few days ago needed better light, lower ISO, wider DoF, yada yada yada.
K-3 and Tarmon 300 2.8 with F 1.7x AF adapter (510mm ƒ4.5)
ISO 200, ƒ8, AV

Today I had sun but no birds. There were 60 out there when the light was bad. Today, none. What can you do?

While I was waiting, a few of the regulars.

Great set from one of my "bucket list" locations I'd like to visit.
There is a webcam aimed at the hot spring so you can visit from the comfort of home until you get the chance to visit in person

Maybe I’ll make it that way sometime.

Good job getting a couple with the whole bird in the frame, since they are almost never where you aim the lens and get set for the shot.

I would urge all the posters in this thread to pick 10 favourites from your shots in 2018 and post them in the annual thread which showcases PF members' selections of the best images they took during the past year:
Year End Review: Your Favorite Photos of 2018 - PentaxForums.com
The telephoto shooters tend to be under-represented in these collections. There are many wonderful images in this thread that deserve to be seen by a wider group of PF members.

You probably know this, but you can quickly find your own posts in this thread by clicking the drop-down arrow next to "Search this thread" at the top of the page and then clicking the link that says "Find my posts". That makes it easy to select and cross-post images.

Go to it!

I was mad at myself the other day. I got a bunch more pics of the water rail only to realise when I looked at them that I had left the K3 on jpg-small, after taking some pics of lenses to sell. aaarg!
Couple of the better efforts, full sized, and I still liked the snipe shot.

From what could be the last hummingbird shoot of the season (most of the hummers here locally leave about this time of the year for parts unknown):
