Another shot of the Grey Fantail nest (K3, DA*300):

Don't worry, the other two chicks were nearby.

Also nearby were two shy Eastern Yellow Robins:

And a Sacred Kingfisher:

Which has a different call to what I'm used too, it was probably calling for five minutes before I noticed it. Maybe a juvenile?

The mount on my Tamron 300 f/2.8 still isn't working right, but the lens is still very usable. It works sort of like a screwmount lens now. Wherever you set the aperture with the ring, that's what you see through the viewfinder. These are with the 1.4X teleconverter, aperture set to f/8.

Annoyed, something starlings are good at being. AF locked onto the mesh rather than the feathers, but not too awful.

After each new lens purchase, I always seem to hear myself saying, "Ok, now I've got everything I'll ever need." I'm not a "collector", and try to be a minimalist with respect to "stuff". It's what I call, a "niche theory of acquisition". E.g., I've got a box of hammers in my garage. Ball-pein and carpenter's in several sizes, a few sledges in different sizes, auto-body dollies, hatchets, welding hammers, etc. Each has a purpose with a limited range of cross-over flexibiity. Got to have the right tool for the job.

So I discovered this thread and looked all through it. Fantastic pictures. I felt both inspired and under-equipped. So I went and sprung for the DA-560 (the price from Ricoh directly was a thousand bucks less than BHPhoto or Adorama). As soon as I figure out how to use it effectively, I'll throw some pics up here. Btw, I don't "do" sports and stuff like that - not much on photographing the humans. (You always see these folks with long, white lenses out on the sidelines of sports events.) More a landscapes, nature and architecture kind of guy, I reckon. Well, we'll see what happens after it gets here. I wonder if they're going to ship it by slow boat from Japan (or wherever they make'em).

$3,999.95, that's a good price. Welcome to the club

(I bought mine from the UK for 2,799 GBP back in 2016. Now it has (in the same shop) price tag 3.799 GBP. Seems like prices went up...)

Soligor ("chrome eared") 350mm f5.6

These pics are from last autumn with a soligor 350mm f5.6. Relatively speaking for one of these kind of lenses, it's a good one IMO. Samsung NX20.
