So, with insurance, it cost me about three hundred bucks to send the defective lens back to Ricoh (w/preauthorized RMA) via USPS priority mail. No question it was delivered. Their "customer service" kept putting me off, telling me that they would get back to me with a status update that same day, but never followed up as promised.

The uncompensated return of merchandise is one of the statutory bases for a "notice of billing error" to the credit card issuer. You get sixty days in which to file a written claim (following the statutory requirements, of course, good thing I'm a lawyer), so I did so about a week before the expiration of that window of opportunity. (With all sorts of documentation, order confirmation, delivery confirmation, emails etc.) That doesn't mean the bank screwed up, by the way, simply that an error had occurred such that we'd been billed for something that was never, as it were, received.

Still haven't heard anything from Ricoh, but the nice people at the bank sent us a letter today telling us not to worry about it because they've backed out the charge.

I'm never going to order anything from Ricoh ever again (and, by the way, I am also a consumer of copiers and such office machinery). They don't do what they said they'd do, and their customer service is unreliable to say the best.

I've seen some great shots with that same lens, and I'd have liked it if the one I'd gotten had worked. Oh, well, I got a 150-450 instead, for a small fraction of the thousands I'd been willing to pay for the 560, and that's much more useful anyway, I think.
Oy, I'm sorry you've had to go through such a frustrating experience, but I appreciate you sharing the details. Someday, one of us may face a similar situation and your tale may prove instructive.

Very nice, I only seem to Red-capped, Scarlett and Flame Robins when I don't have a camera and even then it is usually only a fleeting view.

The Eastern Yellow Robins seem to be a lot more obliging than their red cousins.

With DFA 150-450 and K3. f8 @ 1/125 handheld.

A nice shot.
The Eastern Yellows can be very confiding, sometimes come almost too close. A friend had one perch on his foot!

Cheers,
Terry

You'd been away for a while, then I saw your Penta-sonic post. Welcome back!

Adorable photo of the little mouse.
Thank you. I've been busy with other projects. I still browse here, just haven't made any posts. I still shoot regularly, just haven't uploaded much at all. With the Penta-sonic, I wanted to get into wildlife video, and a friend convinced me with her Panasonic. When I learned that I could use all of my Pentax lenses and my Pentax batteries on the body, I was sold.

some times a very subtle change in the pose of the " model " can make a difference

a slight change in the tilt of the head ( watch the eye )

I see

" anger " in the first

" curious " in the second

sequential photos only a second or less apart

[ I wish I could remember how I told the bird to change its pose ]

A tale of two Hermits

A Hermit Warbler showed up at one of our favourite birding spots on Saturday and was still there when we arrived this morning. This bird should have been migrating up the West Coast - I'm not sure how it ended up in Ontario but it was greeted by 80-100 very excited birders. The image isn't great but I was only able to get within 150-200 feet. Think of it as a test for the DA*300 and 1.4xTC combo at very long distance!

The other "hermit" was a Hermit Thrush, much more common around here at this time of year but still a nice bird to see.

Also a Brown Creeper and a White-breasted Nuthatch.

There were a couple more warblers but the main wave is yet to come.

+1 on that, but in fact humans find the majority of Carnivora attractive and appealing, otherwise why would we have dogs & cats as pets?
