So you're busting your butt trying to get the comparison done today?

All we want answered is the big question. Is the 150-450 better at 450 than the 150-500 is at 500mm. Is that too much to ask? How about an image of an margarine container taken at 50 meters with both lenses?

You can choose whatever kind of margarine you want. We will all respect you decision.

I can tell you that it's as good at f5.6 as the Sigma is at f8...and the Sigma is only f6.3...The only thing I miss is the OS, and even that not very much...

Whatever lens (or combo) you used for photographing that swan, the results are beyond any criticism. Nice soft light, just what is needed to maintain some detail in the bright areas without losing in the shadows. BTW: It's almost certain the DA300mm + TC will have better IQ than the ATX Tokina, for all the latter is a decent lens and wonderfully compact for a 400mm.
Spot on, and here's the proof

My wife and I asked ourselves the same question, so we opened his Flickr stream and found another shot in his "Birds in Action" labeled "Coppersmith Barbet"

WWT Slimbridge

Shooting handheld from a canoe is one way to test the limits of shake reduction, but a high shutter speed is the best insurance. DA*300 and K-S2.
