When is a tree not a tree?
When it's a Tawny Frogmouth of course!
I got shots of a family of four in this tree, over a period of about a week last Dec. This may be one of that family.
Not the best light, but does capture their interesting behaviour.

K-3 II, DFA 150-450, handheld. See exif for shot details.

Cheers,
Terry

That looks awesome. I've always wondered about the lens.

If the images from the 400 f2.8 are not sharp it is operator error, every time.....I am again attempting AF-C and burst [after ignoring it for 6 months] so many of my latest post may be slightly "fuzzy!' Now that I have a minimum distance established for the lens [with the AF 1.7] to track flying objects, 30 feet, I am pleased with the results so far.....just need some more sunlight...

Superb Fairy-wren.
These little fellas are rarely still, so keeping them in the viewfinder with a long lens is a challenge, and contrary to popular opinion, the Pentax AF is faster than they are :-)

That's a steal! That lens has gained a better reputation recently than when it was in production - but it is a beast. Definitely a location on a support lens, not for walkabout hand-held.

I just keep chasing the bird, that area does not have a single tree so this bird only perch on tall grass making me easy to target him
This pic was KIV last time as it's quite heavily cropped, not the best photo to upload, I process other higher resolution pics, only process this image just now.
